Heart shaped cupcakes: Buy cupcakes or chocolate muffins. Roll out plastic icing on a surface that has been dusted with corn starch. Cut a circle with a 7 cm diameter cookie cutter and cut the edges with a heart shaped cookie cutter. Place on a muffin or cupcake. Mix a teaspoon powdered food colouring with a teaspoon vodka or gin. Paint the heart with it and let dry.
Sweet cookies with a sugar topping: Roll out sweet cookie dough on a floured work surface. Cut out different size hearts. Sprinkle with coloured sugar crystals or Nicoletta’s Cake Crystals (021 932 6092). Bake as usual.
Sweet cookies with strawberry filling: Roll out sweet cookie dough on a floured work surface. Cut two blocks with a rectangular cookie cutter. Cut a heart of one of the rectangular blocks with a cookie cutter. Bake according to the recipe directions. Strain 125 ml strawberry jam through a sieve. Bring to a boil in a saucepan and simmer until it thickens. Spread the jam on the one cookie and place the cookie with the cut out heart on top. Fill the heart with jam. Allow to cool.
